Jessica Yolanda Kaye

Jessica Yolande Kaye is an Australian artist based in London. Through continuous line-drawing, Jessica explores the way people think, feel and act in relation to others and themselves. She is fascinated by the fine-line that separates complexity and simplicity in human behaviour and psychology - and seeks to explore this in her process and her aesthetic.

Jessica's Style

On the face of it, Jessica’s aesthetic is minimalist, pared back. However her process to get to this end result is more complex and layered. Through a rigorous sequence of sketches, she takes complex moments from her reality and works away at them bit by bit, over time reducing her images to a single line.

Always working in collections, her art becomes a form of therapy, and informs a greater understanding of herself and the world around her.

“My process is instinctive yet detailed, beginning as expressive sketching and evolving to a more intentional, refined mark-making. This interplay between abstraction and precision is a constant source of tension in my work. I grew up painting hyper-realist oils and watercolours but as much as I loved the thrill of painting “3D”, I was mirroring not expressing. I felt disconnected from my art and disconnected from myself. So, I made a conscious effort to unlearn as a painter and as a person. As I dismantled my art, layer by layer, I began to dismantle my mind. Everyday I fight the urge to ‘perfect’ but line drawing has helped me see detail in a different way... Not in what’s added, but in what’s left out.” - Jessica Yolanda Kaye

In The Flesh

This curation is on show at our exhibition 'In The Flesh'. It was on display at 105 Pimlico Road, SW1W 8NQ from 25th November to 19th December 2021.

This will be the first time that the artists of Partnership Editions have come together in a physical space since lockdown has lifted, and it celebrates the very fact that we're able to see their works in person again.

We embrace the many purposes of an exhibition: a way to unite artists and collectors, and an opportunity to engage with both people and art - something we've all been deprived of for too long.

The works in this exhibition have been selected based on their exceptional skill and power to communicate. See their colours, their textures, experience their emotions, let them get under your skin...in the flesh.

Drop 6 - Winter 2021

"Informed by moments from recent travels over summer, this collection explores how different landscapes open you up to different ways of thinking. When you’re on holiday, removed from your daily routine and presented with new horizons, your mind is expansive. It has space to wander, reflect, dream and “be”. It allows you to savour the simple moments, from a juicy peach to a sunrise swim." - Jessica Yolanda Kaye, Horizons

Drop 5 - Winter 2020

"This collection is inspired by the vitality of nighttime. At night, without the distractions of the day, we are left with ourselves. Alone with our thoughts, our sensations are almost heightened, as our feelings and dreams wake up." - Jessica Yolanda Kaye, After Dark

Drop 3 - High Summer 2020

“Inspired by dreams of summer, painting this collection was somewhat of an escape for me, as I took my mind where I couldn't go physically. Sketching in my little studio in London, I imagined different scenes of summer - swimming in the sea, dozing off to a book, eating lunch by the pool - and there I found a sense of elation. With the Italian coast on my mind, I was drawn to pastels and earthy tones." - Jessica Yolanda Kaye, Take Me Away

Orange Series

"When I spotted this paper in a little art shop in Florence, I was immediately drawn to it’s bold, burnt orange colour. It had a certain strength to it, yet when I noticed how delicate the paper was — with it’s gentle texture and deckled edge — it reminded me that strength and softness go hand in hand. This contrast made me think about this very duality as it exists in all of us, and how fast we are to overlook or dismiss our softer, more delicate sides. This series explores the strength behind sensitivity." - Jessica Yolanda Kaye
