Certain tones arrive in my work almost without permission, and they often uncover feelings I didn’t know I had, or that I didn’t want to say out loud. My paintings are where I work through those things, the push and pull of being a woman, the demands of motherhood, the longing for freedom. I build them up with layers of paint, oils, scraps of paper, even sand or gravel, until they feel textured and raw enough to hold what I’m trying to express. My work is a deeply personal summary of how I interpret being a woman and what it means to carry heavy thoughts.
