Lily Snowden-Fine
Lily Snowden-Fine is a British/Canadian painter working with oils, acrylics, oil pastel and charcoal. She earned a Bachelor of Design from Ontario College of Art and Design University in 2019, and graduated from The Drawing Year at The Royal Drawing School in 2023.
Her work melds personal experience with the mystery of found photographs in order to condense time and play with an atemporal quality within her images. Using ambiguous yet evocative symbolism inspired by relics and antique objects, she explores how our belongings become imbued with meaning and the significance of what is preserved by painting.
She says: "A portrait is a delicate combination of who someone really is and how I personally see them. Similar to how a face changes from your first impression to close friends, the experience of painting a portrait is getting to know someone. It is the balance of capturing intimate details and the communication of their impression as a whole."
