Artistic Director of Completedworks

119/ Artful Objects: A Conversation with Anna Jewsbury

Artful objects, sculptural forms, and exceptional craftsmanship are at the heart of Completedworks, a brand that sits at the intersection of art, design, and storytelling.

With a distinct voice in contemporary jewellery and object design, their work blends thoughtful materials, theatrical presentation, and a deep sense of curiosity and the unexpected.

In our latest journal, we speak with Artistic Director Anna Jewsbury about the ethos behind the brand, the beauty in the overlooked, and how Completedworks continues to challenge convention through pieces that transcend trends and blur the lines between art and sculptural form.

How would you describe the ethos behind Completedworks?

At its core, Completedworks is about exploring the beauty in the overlooked. The ethos is grounded in a sense of curiosity, irreverence and craftsmanship. We’re not interested in just making beautiful things but in creating pieces that invite reflection - that feel both of the moment and beyond it. We also try to prioritise recycled, renewable or deadstock materials in our making wherever we can.

Where do you go for inspiration?

Inspiration comes from everywhere, really - from a crumpled piece of paper to a passage in a book, or the soft collapse of fabric. I'm particularly drawn to the traces of time - how something ages, folds, or breaks down. Art and architecture play a huge role, as do the rhythms of domestic life. There’s a tension between chaos and order in those spaces that I find endlessly compelling.

Completedworks straddles the line between art object and wearable piece. How do you see your work existing beyond fashion?

Fashion is the entry point, but the intention is to create objects that can live outside that cycle - something that sits equally comfortably on a body or on a plinth. That idea of crossing boundaries - between art and utility, permanence and impermanence - is fundamental to our work.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to other creatives looking to build something with purpose and longevity?

Stay close to your values, even when it feels uncomfortable. Trends will come and go, but what gives your work longevity is a deep sense of clarity - about what you're trying to say and why. And build slowly. There’s strength in resisting the rush.

Your Fashion Week presentations have been cutting-edge in their use of
theatre to bring your brand to life. Can you tell us more about how art and theatre plays a role in what you do?

I think choosing to present our collections through a live format has always been about giving our pieces and collection life and context. Jewellery and accessories are often presented in a very traditional static format by the nature of the products so to me it’s exciting to push the boundaries of what is typically expected of an accessories brand and how we are used to seeing collections be presented. Through the live format, the pieces become more than static objects - they are part of an evolving narrative. It’s a way for us to re-contextualise our work, allowing us to add to the Completedworks universe in an unexpected way.

You’re an artist and collector yourself. What is your favourite piece in your collection?

I have a painting by the Irish artist Sian Costello called Gestural Involvement With Others. I could stare at it all day. There’s always something new to discover.
