George Marrington
George Marrington is an emerging artist based in Surrey. Constructing paintings from an archive of images captured by himself and those close to him, George explores the theme of evolving memory. With a particular focus on exploring the materiality of oil paint, he uses translates images from reference into a new medium, exploring the subjects of adolescence and uncertainty that are present in the years of early adulthood.
George graduated in 2023 with a BA in Art from The University of Reading. His debut solo show 'Washed Up' took place in October 2023 at Modern Art Oxford as part of the Platform Graduate Award 2023. He has also been part of several group shows taking place in London, Oxford, Reading and online.
"I love the process of painting above all and find it a great means of escape. I try to be brave with my decision making especially when it comes to working on a larger scale, and I find my best work is made when I run with decisions I’m most unsure about."
