Founder of Alice Palmer & Co
84/ Hang With Alice Palmer
For this “Hang With” feature we travel to the stylish streets of Kensal Rise, where Alice Palmer, founder of the eponymous English homeware brand, lives with her family.
Alice’s home is vibrant and full of personality. Touches of texture and pattern from her signature Alice Palmer & Co lampshades, lamp bases, and cushions create a warm and inviting feeling.
The clear Andalusian and Moroccan influences in her textiles and ‘objets utiles’ paired with an impeccably curated art collection, pieces collected during her travels and passed down from her parents' collection all tell the story of Alice’s life.
Here we invite you to step inside her North West London home as she tells us how her home inspires her work and she shares her recipe for a happy home.
I live in… Kensal Rise, London.
I spend most of my time at home… in my rear extension which is an open-plan kitchen/dining room so it is the real hub of the home where we do everything from entertaining to homework with the children.
My work inspires my home… I started my business making lampshades at my kitchen table because I couldn’t find the perfect lampshade… and this has now evolved into designing other products I find hard to source elsewhere, so I would say my home inspires my work!

My first art purchase was… It was probably something from a car boot sale when I was a teenager but my first proper art purchase was a portrait I had commissioned by Leonie Gibbs of my husband and daughter, Margarita, when she was 6 months old.
If I could hang any artwork in my collection it would be… Quite a boring answer but Van Gogh’s flower still lifes to me are just unbeatable… A few of my favourites are: Still Life, Vase with Twelve Sunflowers, August 1888; Irises, May 1890; Pink Roses in a Vase, May 1890
My prized possession is… I was given some paintings from my parents' collection when I moved into my first home which are irreplaceable to me and carry so many memories.
When decorating my home I like to buy from…
Naturally, my house is covered in products from my brand, Alice Palmer & Co, but otherwise, I like to source things from small brands I love or things I pick up on my travels.

My recipe for a happy home is… Good lighting, lots of natural light in the day and soft, ambient low lighting at night. Also having enough storage you can hide the mess easily!
I’ve currently got my eye on… A new house to do another renovation!

Red
I love all of Belle’s work, we did a collaboration together back when I first started my brand and she is so talented. I love this Urn and leaf design, it reminds me of a Matisse.
