The ‘tablescape’ has been around in art for centuries, from Roman mosaics depicting lavish banquets in honour of deities like Bacchus, the god of wine, to arguably the most famous tablescape in Art History, The Last Supper. 

With the emergence of the dutch Baroque still life paintings, the tablescape was often used to display wealth and status and became a popular genre for the prosperous art buyer. In recent years the genre has evolved, with scenes that celebrate bringing people together through food and the home, so here is a curation of our favourite PE artworks that do just that.
