Hattie Landells
Hattie Landells’ work engages with how our understanding of the divine or the sacred can be explored through contemporary image making. Her paintings often centre around a found object or motif in the landscape, or a speculative still life, meditating on incidents where coincidence might veer into the miraculous. This visual language of echoes and equivalents values humour and the existential balm of the absurd. A deep familiarity with rural England continually draws Hattie back to an exploration of the interface between the human and more-than-human world - animal, vegetable and mineral.
Hattie holds degrees from the University of Oxford and Courtauld Institute of Art, and spent two years studying on the Turps Art School studio programme. Her work has been exhibited in London and internationally.
“I’m fascinated by the endless echoing of forms to be found in the natural world, and often the echo becomes a motif through which I explore how the human mind and being is itself a part of this world, despite the illusion that we somehow stand apart from it.” - Hattie Landells

"I enjoy the softness and subtle abstraction of her work. They are quite dreamlike and thought provoking." - Jess Wheeler
