Katarina Lalic
Katarina Lalic is a painter born in London. Katarina's creative process is characterized by the gradual evolution of her paintings, as she meticulously layers paint to develop intricate, multi-faceted abstract narratives. Her work is deeply inspired by nature, translating observed natural elements into layered abstractions.
Katarina received First Class Honours from Central Saint Martins BA Fine Art. She cites Joan Mitchell, Édouard Vuillard, and Andrew Cranston as her influences. She currently works in her studio in Hackney, predominantly in oil.
"Plein air drawings lay the groundwork for the paintings I craft in the studio, where the natural elements I observe in the real world inspire the imagined landscapes of my art. By merging direct observation with creative interpretation, I dissolve the boundaries between reality and fantasy, weaving both realms into a cohesive whole." - Katarina Lalic

September Drop 2025
"My paintings contain multitudes of techniques, yet the idea of landscape and its energy permeate through these artworks. This collection is based on my encounters with nature and my intuitive responses to it. Similar to natural forces, I feel a sense of unpredictability to the work, and I feel as though the canvas drives me to create work rather than the other way round. The works I have chosen for this collection in particular are a response to natural habitats I find comforting and beautiful: ayres, ravines and bayous." - Dreams of Rockfall, Katarina Lalic
March Drop 2025
"The work I create is intrinsically linked to nature, my paintings are continuous surveys of natural objects and themes that morph into fields of abstraction. Brushstrokes reflect what I see in plants and landscapes; and this collection captures the essence of these organic elements,
transforming these glimpses and fragments into compositions of abstraction." - Katarina Lalic
The Open Call Winners Collection 2024
“This collection serves as a heartfelt tribute to the abstraction found in nature, evolving into a continuous exploration of natural forms. Heavily inspired by Dennis Hlynsky’s innovative mapping of bird and insect flight paths, saturating each piece with the dynamic pathways of natural elements, reflecting the intricate and mesmerizing patterns of the natural world.” - Katarina Lalic, Outside Traces
