Artist
Mary West
Mary studied at The Slade School of Fine Art and lives and works in West London close to the river.
Her paintings explore light, space and texture through landscape. Blurring the lines between abstract and figurative painting, memories of landscape inspire every composition. Each painting is an emotional response to a place and shared encounters.
Mary works in oils, allowing the paint to take on a life of its own through chance accidents and gestural mark making. She paints quickly and intuitively, creating a sense of movement while building layers.
Mary had her first solo show earlier this year. Her paintings sit in collections around the world including Hong Kong, Denmark, Australia, Portugal, USA.
"These works are about remembered landscapes, layered histories and the passing of time. Most importantly they are about the joy of painting."

Beauty & Terror - A Group Exhibition
We're excited to present ‘Beauty & Terror’ - The exhibition invites our artists to interpret themes inspired by a quote by Austrian poet and novelist Rainer Maria Rilke from 'Go to the Limits of Your Longing': “Let everything happen to you, beauty and terror, no feeling is final.”
“I interpreted the theme through remembered landscapes and places of extremes. Each canvas not only draws on physical landscapes but also psychological spaces. The paintings are deeply personal, drawn from both shared and solitary experiences.” - Mary West
