Growing up skateboarding London’s streets, Daniel came to understand the city’s architecture through movement and play. Its surfaces and structures became both terrain and inspiration. He still sees his surroundings in this way, and through his work, documents spaces where the organic and the geometric meet, allowing natural forms and urban structures to merge into shifting, dreamlike landscapes.
His environments not only inspire the work but also provide its materials. Foraging and sustainably sourcing materials is an essential part of Daniel’s process, particularly when working with clay, his primary medium. Through experimentation with different clay bodies and glazes, he has embraced their unpredictable nature, bringing him closer to the surfaces and textures he has long been drawn to.
Over the past decade, Daniel’s work has been exhibited and awarded by galleries and museums including the V&A and the Barbican, and has been featured internationally in The New Yorker, Wallpaper, Penguin publications, and more.
"I'm naturally drawn to spaces which I feel at home in, whether it’s a plaza that I frequent for skateboarding or a local market where I collect my fabrics. These are the spaces that feel sacred to me and that’s why I enjoy painting them."
