Daniel Dzonu Clarke
Daniel Dzonu Clarke is a mixed media artist based in London of British-Ghanaian descent. Growing up in London his passion for skateboarding led to a fascination with obscure architectural forms, and the way urban environments could be reinterpreted as spaces for play. Exploring through this lens, in search of new structures to skate, he found inspiration for his other passion, drawing.
He furthered his practice at Camberwell College of Arts, studying Illustration. Over the last decade, his work has been awarded by galleries and museums such as the V&A and the Barbican, and featured internationally in The New Yorker, Wallpaper, numerous Penguin publications and more.
Travelling abroad for work, he filled spare moments documenting the beauty of his new surroundings. These drawings inspired the vibrant, abstract landscape paintings that would define his artistic practice. This exploration has since evolved to textiles and ceramics.
"I'm naturally drawn to spaces which I feel at home in, whether it’s a plaza that I frequent for skateboarding or a local market where I collect my fabrics. These are the spaces that feel sacred to me and that’s why I enjoy painting them."

“These artworks are inspired by moments within journeys where we stop to breathe and admire a passing moment. The process of painting them is a reminder to myself to take breaks and appreciate the beauty surrounding us that can so easily pass us by.” — Daniel Dzonu Clarke

“Meeting points, the places where we meet. A continuing series of art works based on places I've passed through along my travels, stopping by to enjoy the atmosphere or simply to admire the physical environment. These places always stick with me because of a personal encounter and this is my way of documenting those experiences.” - Daniel Dzonu Clarke, Meeting Points
