Phoebe Howard uses collage and drawing as a stage for her inner world, creating surreal narratives suspended between reality and imagination. Heavily inspired by gothic literature, her work explores the psychological tension hidden beneath polished environments. Her recent work grew directly out of an artist residency in a hotel, where she gathered detailed observations of figures and furniture, transforming real-life guests and staff into enigmatic characters within her unfolding myths.

Phoebe graduated from Chelsea College of Art with a specialism in embroidery. Rooted in this textile background, her intricate collage process beautifully mirrors the rhythm of stitch-work, utilising patchwork techniques and the meticulous piecing together of disparate fragments into a cohesive whole.

Her process captures a world where the familiar begins to unravel. As Phoebe notes:

"My practice sits between drawing and collage, where I collect figures, furniture, and observations. The characters echo the staff and guests I observed, hinting at a descent beneath the polished surface as the luxurious facade begins to slip."
