Artist

Simon Job

Simon Job is a London based artist originally from North Wales. His subjects range from environmental studies to more direct investigations into materiality and process - the act of making often becomes the subject of the work in its own right. He employs various experimental techniques that explore themes of chance, decay, beauty and fragility. Utilising unconventional art processes that may involve paint stripper, industrial sanding machines or the effects of the elements to influence the outcome of each work.

Achieving an MA from Chelsea College of Art and BA from Liverpool John Moores University, Simon Job has exhibited both nationally and internationally.

“My practice is engaged in painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. I like to explore the boundaries of how these disciplines are conventionally used. Continually experimenting with materials and processes, I look for new ways to exploit those already well trodden approaches to art making.” - Simon Job

Process - An Online Exhibition

“This body of work engages with a phrase that I frequently return to: the uncertain surface. Creating unstable conditions in the paintings, adding and removing layers, building a sense of history and an increasingly complex image surface. In the photographs, there are often multiple layers of transparent and opaque surface and it is not always immediately apparent what you are looking at or which layer your gaze should settle on. It's this ambiguity in both photography and painting that intrigues me.” - Simon Job
