About The Artist
Ann-Marie Williamson is a London-based artist. Her practice crosses between painting and textiles to create works that harness the emotive potential of fabric to explore themes of identity, memory, and human conditions. Working predominantly with domestic textiles, clothing, and waste fabrics, the pieces are formed organically, instinctively pieced together and directed by process.
She received her Bdes (Hons) in Constructed Textile Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2005 and after working in various textile design jobs- including founding her own millinery studio -she decided to pursue a career in Fine Art and won a scholarship award from UEL to undertake an MA in Fine Art. She was recently nominated for the New Blood Art Emerging Art Prize.
"Fabric, as a medium, possesses a unique capacity for emotive expression, which I believe exceeds that of other art mediums. Unlike traditional mediums such as paint or clay, fabric can be worn, bearing the imprint of its wearer and showcasing signs of wear - such as thinning areas, stains, and smells embedded within its fibres."
