About The Artist

Laura Vargas Llanas, working under the creative name "Kanica," creates hand-embroidered canvases that merge traditional craftsmanship with a modern design aesthetic. Her tactile textile pieces utilize ethically sourced, naturally dyed yarns like merino and jute to explore the balance between geometric shapes and negative space.

Based in Seville, Laura’s practice is deeply rooted in art history. She earned a degree from The American University of Paris and Christie’s Education London, later working at Christie’s and Carpenters Workshop Gallery. Her transition to fine art was profoundly inspired by the Bauhaus weavers and their belief that everyday craft objects can be elevated to high art.

“The quote by artist Anni Albers, 'Pure forms will never bore us', is a consistent motto in my line of work. With every composition I seek to find a balance between rhythm and stillness, by combining texture, rudimentary shapes and colour.”
