Katie Moore’s ceramic practice centres on hand-building and painting, treating each of her coiled vessels as both a functional container and a theatrical prop. Drawing inspiration from stage sets and natural landscapes, she creates textured surfaces by layering underglaze and slip in a process she describes as an ongoing experiment. Her visual narratives begin as digital and hand-drawn sketches, which she translates onto the clay to capture a distinct, illustrative sense of place.

Based in London, Katie discovered her signature coiling technique while working remotely in a makeshift studio—an environment that granted her the freedom to reflect and experiment. Her unique three-dimensional work is deeply informed by her foundational background in illustration, allowing her to bridge the gap between flat drawings and tactile, sculptural forms.

"Back in the studio, I’ve been revisiting my windswept Shetland trip through photos and sketchy paintings - picking out favourite viewpoints of houses in the landscape and experimenting with how to bring those colours to life on clay. Trips like this are endless inspiration; even months later, I’m still revisiting and reworking the ideas."
