Caroline Yates
Caroline Yates is an English artist based in Kent. In 1995 she completed her MA from The Royal College of Art and started her practice as a textile designer and illustrator. In 2000 she became a full-time painter, only interrupted by another MA in fine art printmaking in 2001.
In recent years, Caroline has been exploring new techniques in order to deconstruct her artworks. She’s moved away from the traditional illustrative work she started with and is breaking down her practice into visceral, expressive, and emotional pieces with deeply tactile and textural qualities.
Caroline’s work has been exhibited internationally and has been commissioned by a large number of private and corporate clients.
“Working from my home studio, my work explores the concept of the ostensibly functioning family. Using oil paint on either canvas or paper, the works untangle the underlying tensions and hidden skeletons of the familial home, and most recently, the broad and monumental role of women within those structures." - Caroline Yates

Shepherd
“In this collection, I have been looking at guardianship: slow motion herdswomen like godly inflatables and shepherds doing their job, corralling and confining. A recurring motif of an ellipse occurs – a pod is the first iron skin. My work exhibits an increasingly intimate and intuitive investment, paintings painting themselves with little or no reference material.” - Caroline Yates, Shepherd
