Online Exhibition

We're thrilled to present our online exhibition 'The Living Mountain' featuring works by Alice CarrBethenie CarriagaDavid HardyHugo Winder-LindLily Bertrand-WebbLisa Hardy, and Philip Maltman - artists who encounter the natural world as part of their artistic practice, and whose work is inspired by these interactions.

The concept of The Living Mountain was inspired by the writing of Nan Shepherd as she describes her journeys into the Cairngorm mountains of Scotland. Written during World War II, Shepherd encounters the vast and breathtaking landscape, in search of the mountain’s ‘essential nature’. Through her poetic prose she documents the magnificence of the natural world and explores her relationship to the wilderness of the Cairngorms.

Shepherd celebrates the intensity of the landscape, weather, and the practice of immersing oneself completely in nature. Walking, observing, and taking in the sensations of nature often go hand in hand with the creative process, providing inspiration and clarity to artists alongside their artistic practice.
