David Hardy
David Hardy was born in Southampton in 1968. He studied Fine Art, Printmaking at Winchester School of Art in 1995. After graduating he moved to London and worked at The Royal Society of Arts and London College of Fashion as resident graphic designer.
David now lives and works in West Wales where he strives to represent the land, seas and skies that surround him and those that are bound to him by memory. David takes inspiration from the natural world, responding to a place or an experience. Often referencing the landscape, photography & found forms as starting points. As a former graphic designer David has a keen eye for composition and form that’s reflected in his abstract pieces. Using a limited color palette, he emphasizes depth, tone, and texture, creating works that invite interpretation and emotional engagement through their ambiguity.
David's Style
Now working and living in Wales, David takes inspiration from his surrounding landscapes. His work focuses on composition and arrangement of colour in a subtle, reductive and minimal way that draws inspiration from the natural landscape and organic forms.
Married to fellow Partnership Editions artist, Lisa Hardy - the two are influenced by each other as much as the natural landscape of the Welsh countryside and the elements that shape it.
"My work is a record of pure engagement with colour and the material qualities of paint and surface. The work focuses on composition and arrangement of colour in a reductive, subtle minimal way, inspired by the natural landscape." - David Hardy

The Living Mountain, An Online Exhibition
"Nan Shepherd’s idea of searching for a mountain’s ‘essential nature’ resonates with my own artistic practice. It encompasses the sensory experience of place: the way light shifts across its slopes, the feel of the wind, the quiet rhythms of changing seasons, and the way these elements interact with our own inner landscape. The mountains will make you aware of their presence, yet they will ask nothing of you; they make no demands, inviting instead a quiet attentiveness and openness. I am drawn to the mountain’s capacity to hold and convey a complex dialogue between nature and consciousness, presence and memory, surface and depth." - David Hardy, The Living Mountain
Discover 'The Living Mountain', an online group exhibition featuring artists who encounter the natural world as part of their artistic practice, and whose work is inspired by these interactions. Sign up (if you haven't already) to get presale access Wednesday 16th July, 7pm BST.
May Drop 2025
"This collection represents a convergence of two visual languages: the structured calm of minimalism and the wild immediacy of action painting. Anchored in the colour blue. Some works are quiet, composed of simple forms and open space. Others are more physical and gestural, created in a moment of instinct and energy. Each painting is a meditation on the tension between presence and absence, silence and intensity." - The Weight of Sky, David Hardy
March Drop 2025
“These works are a dialogue between the beauty and the boundless expanse of the sky. The works serve as a testimonial to the intricate, endless possibilities and inspiration that land, sea, and sky offer. It’s through the exploration of colour, texture and form that I aim to capture the dynamic interplay between the transient and the eternal.” - David Hardy
November Drop 2024
"'Change', is a collection of small works on canvas inspired by the changing of seasons, with a focus on adjusting to the natural rythm of the change in daylight." — David Hardy, Change
May Drop 2024
“These works draw inspiration from the natural world, ethereal hues along with undulating forms of the landscape and the complex tapestry of emotions that nature invokes. At the heart of these works lies a deep-seated fascination with the concept of presence—both of the self within the natural world and of the natural world as it impresses upon the self.” - David Hardy, The Presence of Being
Spring Prints 2024
