Lily Snowden-Fine
Lily Snowden-Fine is a British/Canadian painter living in London. She studied illustration at the Ontario College of Art and Design University, and is currently in The Drawing Year scholarship program at the Royal Drawing School.
Drawing from her love of antiques, found imagery, and family photographs, Lily’s work communicates to the viewer an image of nostalgia for a fleeting moment; mundane memories inflated into cherished imagery after life has moved far enough away for them to feel like a relic of a past life.
She is drawn to the warmth and playful colours of 20th-century paintings which she explores through oils, acrylics, oil pastels and etchings. Her process begins with drawing, finding intriguing compositions in the poses of people around her that tell a story or embody a mood she wants to convey.
She says: "A portrait is a delicate combination of who someone really is and how I personally see them. Similar to how a face changes from your first impression to close friends, the experience of painting a portrait is getting to know someone. It is the balance of capturing intimate details and the communication of their impression as a whole."

The Ones Around Me
"This series is inspired by moving to London; unfamiliar surroundings slowly becoming known and strangers turning into close friends." - Lily Snowden-Fine, The Ones Around Me
