Mona Sultan

Based in the UK, Mona Sultan (b.1979) is a visual artist whose practice explores the tension between what is visible and what remains unknowable. Her visual language emerges from a diverse background in graphic design, film, and fashion, bringing a distinctive compositional and conceptual sensibility to her work.

Using found photographs, collage, and mixed media, Sultan investigates how memory is shaped as much by absence as by presence, challenging both the meaning of the photograph and its capacity to represent. Central to her practice is the act of disruption: collage fractures the image, paint interrupts its narrative, and the resulting “visual glitches” unsettle its authority, creating spaces where images hover between coherence and dissolution.

Recently completed an MA in Fine Arts at City and Guilds of London Art School (Sep 2025), Sultan’s visual language continues to evolve, combining formal precision with conceptual depth. She constructs works that resist closure and remain open to reinterpretation, with each piece becoming a vessel for the bittersweet tension between past and present, certainty and uncertainty. Absence is never treated as void but as a generative space for meaning, inviting viewers to inhabit the gaps, while engaging with the work’s tension between familiarity and ambiguity.
