Freyja Lee specialises in ceramic slipware, transforming functional tableware and heirloom vessels into vibrant canvases for visual storytelling. Adorning her pieces with folklorish themes, dancing deities, and mythological narratives, her practice draws deep inspiration from dreams, poetry, and the visceral experience of motherhood. Rather than relying on rigid preliminary sketches, she treats the clay surface like an intuitive canvas for collage, combining traditional sgraffito and wax-resist techniques to reveal a distinctly raw, woodcut-like quality.

With a foundational background in drawing and printmaking, Freyja works from a garden studio in the hills of North Wales, capturing creative moments amidst the beautiful chaos of family life. She frequently collaborates with potter Tilly Young, who hand-throws the delicate vessels that Freyja intricately paints, though she is continuously expanding her practice to throw her own unique ceramic shapes.
