London-based British painter Georgie Huxley works primarily in oil on linen, capturing the emotional charge within quiet, everyday moments. Through layered mark-making and subtle tonal shifts, her compositions dwell in liminal spaces where presence and absence blur. Grounded in personal experience and family history, her recent work draws on archival photographs of her mother’s youth, treating them as sacred fragments of a life unobserved. For Georgie, painting serves as a way to navigate complex inner states that exceed words, exploring the subtle tension between individual significance and the vastness of the world beyond.

Georgie graduated with First Class Honours from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2023, where she was awarded the Slade Stanbury Prize for Achievement. Her paintings are held in private collections internationally and have been featured in exhibitions across the UK, including her solo show Remains To Be Seen on Brick Lane, alongside shows at Hurst Contemporary and Sound and Vision.

Her practice continually negotiates these internal contrasts. As Georgie says: “I think a lot about how we feel like we are the most important thing while simultaneously knowing we are just a tiny speck in the sea of time. My paintings harness this duality—a flicker of what I think I know and everything else I don’t.”
