Katarina Lalic’s painterly practice is characterised by a gradual, meticulous layering of paint to build intricate, multi-faceted abstract narratives. Deeply inspired by the natural world, she translates organic forms and environmental observations into richly textured compositions. Her creative process begins outdoors, using immediate plein air drawings as a vital foundation. Once in the studio, she expands these sketches into expansive works, dissolving the boundaries between reality and fantasy to weave both realms into cohesive, imagined landscapes.

Born in London, Katarina currently works from her studio in Hackney, predominantly painting in oil. She received First Class Honours in BA Fine Art from Central Saint Martins. Her sophisticated approach to colour, texture, and abstraction is heavily influenced by the expressive works of Joan Mitchell, Édouard Vuillard, and Andrew Cranston.

"Plein air drawings lay the groundwork for the paintings I craft in the studio, where the natural elements I observe in the real world inspire the imagined landscapes of my art. By merging direct observation with creative interpretation, I dissolve the boundaries between reality and fantasy, weaving both realms into a cohesive whole."
