Lily Bertrand-Webb creates honest, dynamic photographs that translate her experience as a half-deaf person into a vibrant visual celebration of modern Britain. Influenced by raw youth portraiture and surrealist icons, her imagery captures the contrasting energies of urban streets, fashionable nightlife, and rugged rural landscapes. Through her lens, she constantly seeks a visual imitation of sounds, navigating the dialogue between total silence and the electronic tones of her cochlear implant to document a deeply sensory, immersive perspective of her surroundings.

Based in West London and of Dominican and English heritage, Lily turned to photography from a young age to navigate her hearing loss. She earned a BA in Photography from Bournemouth Arts Institute in 2011, later completing an invaluable internship with filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson and working alongside pioneering photographer Dorothy Bohm in Fitzrovia.

"My photographs celebrate the jewels of modern Britain, from urban cityscapes to country life," she notes. "I am constantly searching for the imitation of sounds in my daily life, through both silence and the electronic sounds that my cochlear implant gives me."
