About The Artist

Lisa Sandner is a self-taught artist and ceramicist based in Münster, Germany. Her pieces are not focused on seeking perfection but on catching the beauty in a trace from the past and imagining a story that could have been. Her work is born by chance. It can be sparked by the beauty of an old tile in a hallway or a faded painting on a wooden chest. Curious of they way they were made and where they came from, she researches and tries to feel their time and universe.

Lisa was brought up in Africa and now travels the world to make new discoveries that inspire her creations. She studied art history at the Sorbonne in Paris and London. She is a self-taught ceramicist and follows an intuitive practice. Taking notes or looking at her sketches, she then starts to paint, working solely from the feeling and the images she memorised.

"I feel more like a storyteller transporting images, not like a creator. Every image has already been there before, all I do is recognise its beauty and make something from there.“
