About The Artist

Multidisciplinary artist Lucy Whitford creates ceramic sculptures and installations that explore human stories of fragility, strength, and tenderness. Working with delicate precision, she hand-coils vessel-like forms heavily inspired by the organic, classic contours of the acanthus leaf. Her practice centers on the raw materiality of clay, shaping tactile and evocative structures that give a timeless, sculptural presence to deeply personal narratives.

Based in her home studio in South London, Lucy has worked with clay for many years, recently beginning to fire her pieces to grant them a newfound stability. Her evolving studio practice is backed by strong academic credentials; she earned her Master of Fine Arts with distinction from Chelsea College of Arts and has since exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

“These works are intuitive pieces, informed by my years of study and a constantly evolving practice. Every piece is an exploration of clay and its materiality, but also of some aspect of ourselves. I try to capture moments, tell stories and evoke emotions that are both universal and deeply personal.”
