About The Artist
Matthew Richardson is an artist based in Norwich, UK. He combines material and symbolic fragments in a process of wild chance and precise placement, stirring myth, mystery and ritual. His jewel-like works are meditative and mysterious and emerge slowly, finding visual and metaphorical balance between elements. The finished pieces hover between the abstract and imagined, and the magical and every day.
Matthew studied at Cardiff School of Art and Central St Martins. His work has been used by the Poetry Society, The British Library and the V&A and he has shown in both gallery and museum spaces including the New Craftsman, Transition, Outpost and The Beaney.
“I am interested in how objects and materials are affected by wear and tear and the passage of time. I look at remnants and traces, where meaning has been lost or eroded - in buildings, books, archives and museums. They are starting points in a process that combines, repairs and builds a route into our shared psychological space.”
