True Departure

Working between France and Switzerland, visual artist Shaoyu Chen explores the complexities of the human psyche through paintings that blend daily interactions with the mystery of dreams. Her practice operates like an oracle reading between the conscious and subconscious minds, using mythical figures to mirror hidden archetypes. Drawing directly from a personal diary where she documents internal reflections and observations, Shaoyu captures the subconscious’s ability to fictionalise the process of individuation, transforming psychological analysis into deeply metaphorical visual art.

Shaoyu’s distinctive approach is informed by her BA degree with a focus on literature and Jungian psychology, studies that permanently shaped her creative lens and heightened her natural sensitivity toward individual mental states.

Her canvas remains a dedicated space where waking reality meets the unconscious.
