Suffolk-based artist Sophie Victoria Edwards weaves together fragments of observed and imagined places across painting, drawing, and ceramics. Her practice begins with spontaneous travel sketches, which she later rearranges in her studio, extracting shapes and patterns to build dense, obsessive marks and rich tonal layers.

Working for months on a single canvas, she masks and reveals vibrant layers of pastel and oil. In contrast to this fluid immediacy, Sophie slowly slab-builds stoneware ceramics, striking a careful balance between painterly spontaneity and controlled glazing to unite her two- and three-dimensional forms.

Sophie developed her distinct multidisciplinary approach through an extensive academic background, studying at Central St Martins and Edinburgh College of Art, before completing the Royal Drawing School’s scholarship course. Her works have been exhibited at prestigious venues, including Christie’s in London and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.
